Knackstart (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is published by SPACE TIGER STUDIO LIMITED, 21 Bar Meadows, Malpas, Truro, TR1 1SS, England. The app is built to need as little of your data as possible. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app does and does not collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the app, you agree to this policy.
No account
Knackstart has no sign-up, login, or user accounts. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or payment details.
Information stored only on your device
Your saved kits — the hobby and preferences you chose, the generated kit, your budget setting, the items you marked as already owned, and kit names — are stored locally on your device only. This information is never uploaded to our servers, we cannot read it, and it is never included in analytics. Deleting the app removes this data from your device.
Information sent to build a kit
When you ask for a new kit, the app sends a minimal, de-identified request to our backend: the hobby you picked from the catalog (or the short hobby name you typed), your level, where you plan to practice, a rough budget range, your goal, and your device locale. Our backend passes this to an AI model (Google's Gemini API, acting on our behalf) to generate the kit. The request is used solely to return a kit and is not used to identify you or to build a profile of you. If you type your own hobby, please don't include personal information in it.
Anonymous device identifier
To prevent abuse and apply a fair daily limit, requests include an anonymous identifier derived from your device together with an anonymous Firebase authentication token. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any personal account, and is not used for advertising. Reinstalling the app resets it.
Analytics and crash reporting
We use Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics) to understand how the app is used in aggregate — for example that a kit was requested or an Amazon search was opened — and to diagnose crashes. These events are anonymized, contain no free-text you typed, and are not linked to your identity.
No advertising or cross-app tracking
We do not display ads in the app, and we do not sell your personal information. We do not track you across other companies' apps and websites, and the app does not use App Tracking Transparency identifiers.
Amazon Associates
Tapping an item in a kit opens an Amazon search page in your browser that includes our affiliate tag. Anything you do on Amazon (browsing, signing in, or purchasing) is governed by Amazon's own privacy policy, not ours. We do not receive information about what you view or buy. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.
Sharing a kit
The share feature creates a plain-text list of your kit's items and a link to this website. It contains no affiliate links and no information about you; what you do with the text is up to you.
Data retention
On-device data stays on your device until you delete it or remove the app. Kit requests are processed to build your kit and are not stored on our servers as user content; daily-limit counters and aggregated, de-identified analytics are kept only as long as needed for the purposes described above.
Your choices
You choose when to request a kit and what to type. You can reset the anonymous identifier by reinstalling the app, and remove all on-device data by deleting the app. For any question or request about your data, contact us using the details below.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the latest version, and your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
